Scott Winstead has over 25 years of commercial litigation experience. Scott currently focuses his practice on the construction industry where he primarily represents owners, general contractors, and large subcontractors in disputes on commercial construction projects. He also assists clients in complex construction claims related to payment, defaults, delays, termination, design errors, and construction defects.
Scott has worked on cases involving large scale infrastructure projects such as Corps of Engineers projects as well as large construction projects. In addition, Scott has defended contractors and subcontractors in construction-related tort cases, several of which involved wrongful death claims. He has participated in successful mediations and trials involving construction issues. Scott understands that trials are expensive and time-consuming endeavors; therefore, he recommends mediation or other alternative dispute resolution methods wherever possible.
After spending several years in the U.S. Navy, Scott resigned his commission to attend law school. Scott graduated cum laude from Loyola University’s School of Law, where he was recognized as a William Crowe scholar and was on the law review. He has made numerous presentations about construction related matters throughout his career, and he continues to seek opportunities to make presentations on an ongoing basis.
